Anaheim, California: Anaheim Packing District

Friday, August 7, 2015

Recently I went back to Los Angeles with my brother and decided to explore newer areas. I wanted to see something different, something beyond the itinerary of a typical tourist and found myself enjoying a day out in Anaheim. As a young child, the only time I ever visited Anaheim was to go to Disneyland and walk along downtown Disney. This time I went to check out the Anaheim Packing District, a small neighborhood of bars and restaurants.

The Anaheim Packing District is a newer area and only opened about a year ago. A majority of the packing district's venues is inside of what looks like an old warehouse (is it me or is opening things in old ugly buildings a thing now?). Inside the warehouse is a plethora of restaurants, bars, and cafes. There's enough there to spend a lazy weekend afternoon sipping on drinks with friends and watching musicians play on the indoor stage.

Some notable items we tried were Saw Leaf (vietnamese food) and The Chippy Fish & Grill (fish and chips). For those who are ice cream lovers, there are 2 amazing ice cream venues here. Hans' Homemade Ice Cream serves traditional scoops of ice cream and sundaes while Popbar takes a twist on the original popsicle concept and turns it into a make-your-own popsicle, complete with all the sugary goodness of syrup, sprinkles, and cookies a kid could ever dream of!

Right outside of the entrance is also a trolley that takes visitors around the block to another smaller section of restaurants and cafes. Although they offer rides, it's pretty easy to walk over there in 5-10 minutes as it's only a block away. We took the trolley for the fun of it and ended up taking a smoothie break after walking through several shops.
