Lake Lopez: 4th of July Celebrations

Friday, July 10, 2015

I spent the 4th of July this year void of technology. Ben and I went camping with friends for the weekend and indulged ourselves in the simpler times of enjoying nature, sleeping in tents, relaxing on pontoon boats, building camp fires, and riding bikes. It was one of the most relaxing times I've had in awhile with being unplugged from electronics.

One of the many activities we did that weekend was go on a 10 mile bike ride. We biked from our campsite to the Talley winery where we enjoyed the open road and wind in our faces. It's sometimes a liberating feeling to be out of a car and to move at a slower pace. It allows you to see more and really take in the view. Stopping on a bike anywhere is less of an issue compared to a car. The road is yours and nothing less.

Unfortunately we didn't actually go wine tasting. A 10 mile bike is dehydrating enough and it was so hot out that it probably wasn't a good idea to dehydrate more and then attempt to bike back. I will say that the winery is smaller but also quaint. There were some spots to rest where we had a view of the grape fields. For those who are interested in biking along and wine tasting, there are a good number of wineries down the same road if you keep riding further along. I'll definitely have to come back another time and try this when the weather is more suitable for biking and wine tasting.
