My Fair Wedding

Today marks a very special day in my life. Today was the day Ben and I married 1 year ago. It's crazy how the time flies and we're now celebrating our 1 year anniversary today. As a way of toasting to this special occasion (and to post pictures of my wedding outfit ;)), I wanted today's post to commemorate that very day exactly 1 year ago.

As anyone can easily say, wedding planning is not easy. Even smaller weddings like mine are hard to juggle without the help of some great friends. My wedding consisted of only 25 people but it was difficult to plan since half of the guests were from out of the country and the other half did not live in Las Vegas. We had a destination wedding and it turned out to be an awesome one at that. Our close friends and immediate family flew from literally all over the world to spend the weekend with us as we started our festivities Thursday night going up to Sunday morning. We married at the Wynn hotel in their outdoor wedding chapel on a Saturday evening as the sun started to set into the golden hour.

After having been married for some time, one question I am regularly asked is where did I get my wedding dress from. I've had a lot of feedback from my friends who loved it because of its twist on the traditional wedding gown. Instead of white, my dress consisted of 5 layers of lightweight tulle in 3 different shades of champagne. There is also a white/champagne silk lining beneath the all layers and an elegant back flounce that turns into the train of the dress. The long, elegant train of the dress along with the volume of the tulle made me feel as if I were a princess walking down the aisle to my prince. Despite the volume and number of layers, the dress is still lightweight, making it perfect (or at the very least, totally bearable) for summer weddings. I originally purchased a size 4 and had it completely tailored down to my exact proportions. Since the store ran out of this particular style, I'm not sure what size I really would have been in this dress. As an addition to the dress, I paired a floral headpiece and pair of copper/beige heels to complete my wedding day outfit.

As someone with a non-curvy and petite frame, I highly recommend this dress as most of the attention is drawn towards the sophisticated back flounce. The band drawn across the waist also helps give the dress a more defined waistline. The only caveat of this dress is that tailoring it is anything but cheap relative to other wedding dresses. Due to the detailing and structure of the dress, I had to get my dress altered by a wedding dress specialist who explained that every seam had to be opened and altered proportionally. As the layers of tulle of the dress are folded back on the bottom, they had to detach each layer of tulle from the dress, shorten it from the top, and then reattach it instead of just trimming through the bottom. Of course alteration prices will heavily vary depending on the wedding dress so it is an important and often overlooked factor to consider when picking out a dress for your big day!

What were aspects that you loved about your wedding dress and how did you choose the right one? I'd like to hear about it!
