Fashion Cat: Polka Dots + Black Pencil Skirt

Monday, August 3, 2015

An office staple that has gotten many stretches of wear in my professional wardrobe is a simple black pencil skirt. They go well with all colors, making it easy to match a variety of tops. The dark color also makes it easier to hide food and drink accidents that may occur while dining with coworkers or clients if you're as clumsy as I am (shhh! I won't tell if you won't).

One way to style a black pencil skirt is to wear it with a simple top. In this post, I've paired a black pencil skirt with a black polka dot top to break out the monotony. I purchased this pencil skirt from Express awhile back when I started interning but unfortunately could not wear it since I was working on the manufacturing floor. However since I changed to consulting, I have changed over to mostly skirts and dresses. For those who are starting to build up their professional closet, I do recommend pencil skirts from Express as they are normally $60-70 but can also go down to around $40s or less if you wait for sales, specials, or coupons. The material holds up well and it can be washed and dried in the washer and dryer (no dry cleaning!!).

An outfit like this is honestly as simple as rolling out of bed half awake and pulling that same black pencil skirt and a the first top your hand can reach in the closet. It's simple, professional, and gets the job done. Bam! On days when I really do not want to trot around in heels, I will throw on a pair of neutral colored flats and I am out the door.

Do you have any easy office outfits? I'd like to hear about them!
