Hamburg, Germany: Celebrating the last of 2014

Sunday, January 18, 2015

For New Years, Ben and I decided to celebrate with friends in Hamburg. We drove over from Mannheim, making a short stop in Cologne before reaching our destination. Since everyone had plans on New Year’s Eve, we figured it would be a good idea to have two celebrations- the day before New Year’s Eve and the day of.

We had a pleasant dinner party with friends whom we haven’t seen in ages at a friend’s house in the outskirts of Hamburg during the first night. My brother was able to join us at the last minute so we picked him up from a nearby train station and headed over to the party. Throughout the night we had a blast drinking wine, eating raclette, and catching up.

On the night of New Year’s Eve, we bought tickets to an event at Copper House in Hamburg and spent the night drinking and eating there (who can say no to open bar events?). We tried to eat our way through row after row of buffet food. As it approached midnight, everyone went outside to see the fireworks and the views were just absolutely gorgeous! The cool (and somewhat scary) thing about Germany is that people can light fireworks anywhere in the streets on New Year’s Eve so throughout the night we saw fireworks hitting the windows of the restaurant and soaring through the sky. If you’re not careful you can get hit by the fireworks as well.

I hope everyone had an equally awesome New Years!
